1. History
The Department of Dermatology and Burns, formerly the Department of Dermatology - Bach Mai Hospital, has over 70 years of formation and development with significant historical milestones:
- October 1954: The Department of Dermatology under Bach Mai Hospital was established.
- 1982: Based on the Department of Dermatology, the Ministry of Health established the Vietnam Institute of Dermatology under Bach Mai Hospital.
- 2006: Following the decision of the Prime Minister, the National Institute of Dermatology was established under the Ministry of Health (now the National Hospital of Dermatology). Simultaneously, the Ministry of Health re-established the Department of Dermatology under Bach Mai Hospital.
August 1, 2024: Bach Mai Hospital established the Department of Dermatology and Burns based on the existing Department of Dermatology.
2. Functions and Missions
Department Office:
- Assist the Department Leadership in management, administration, archiving, and digital office operations.
- Manage work schedules and assignments for staff within the department.
- International cooperation.
- Financial management.
- Facility and infrastructure management.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Leadership and the Hospital.
Dermatology and Burns Intensive Care Unit:
- Treat patients with severe, critical, or life-threatening Dermatological and Burn conditions.
- Directly participate in pre-hospital emergency teams and disaster relief.
- Participate in training, clinical direction (line management), scientific research, and international cooperation.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Leadership and the Hospital.
Dermatology and Burns Inpatient Treatment Ward:
- Treat adult and pediatric patients with dermatological and burn conditions requiring hospitalization.
- Participate in training, clinical direction, scientific research, and international cooperation.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Leadership and the Hospital.
Laser and Procedural Unit:
- Utilize high-tech laser systems and modern medical equipment to treat diseases of the skin, hair, and nails, as well as for aesthetic dermatology and treatment of burn scars or other causes.
- Perform procedures within the specialties of dermatology and burns.
- Participate in training, clinical direction, scientific research, and international cooperation.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Leadership and the Hospital.
Aesthetic Dermatology Unit:
- Skin care and intensive skin recovery.
- Perform internal aesthetic dermatological procedures.
- Participate in training, clinical direction, scientific research, and international cooperation.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Leadership and the Hospital.
Skin Functional Exploration Unit:
- Perform specialized dermatological and burn tests, such as fresh fungal smears, scabies examinations, bacterial staining, and cytological tests of skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes.
- Perform dermatological and burn diagnostic imaging, including facial skin analysis, Wood’s lamp examination, dermoscopy, and skin ultrasound.
- Participate in training, clinical direction, scientific research, and international cooperation.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Leadership and the Hospital.

- Numerous Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Health for the collective and individuals.
- Numerous Certificates of Merit from the Hospital Party Committee.
- Numerous Certificates of Commendation from the Hospital Director for the collective and individuals.
- Title of "Excellent Labor Collective" for many consecutive years.
