105 Years
of Formation and Development

  • On the path of integration and development, the hospital celebrated its 105th anniversary and received the 3rd Class Independence Medal for the second time; Scale of 1900 beds with 55 affiliated units: 03 Institutes, 08 Centers, 12 Functional Departments/Offices, 23 Clinical Departments, 06 Paraclinical Departments, Medical College, Clinical Medicine Journal, Service Unit; Inaugurated Bach Mai International Conference Center with a 700-seat hall equipped with modern facilities and a synchronized mini hall system; Inaugurated the Pediatric Cardiology Center and Oncology Center with a scale of 800 beds; Started construction of the Outpatient Center at the old Tuberculosis Station and Bach Mai Hospital Branch 2 in Phu Ly (Ha Nam) along with many other projects.
    From 2016 to present
  • Celebrated the 100th anniversary and received the 1st Class Independence Medal for the second time; Scale of 1400 beds with: 02 Institutes, 07 Centers, 22 Clinical Departments, 06 Paraclinical Departments, 10 Functional Departments/Offices, Medical Secondary School, Clinical Medicine Journal, Service Unit; Goal: to build Bach Mai Hospital into a leading medical center in Vietnam, on par with advanced countries in the region.

  • Recognized by the Ministry of Health as the first fully-fledged special-class general hospital in Vietnam.
    Year 2006
  • With national reunification, Bach Mai Hospital entered a new era, taking on the responsibility of being the final-line medical examination and treatment facility of the health sector.
    From 1975 to present
  • During the resistance war against the US, many hospital staff volunteered to go south to fight. Prime Minister Pham Van Dong and leaders of the Party, State, and Government visited and encouraged hospital staff many times. In 1972, B52 bombers attacked and destroyed the hospital four times, and 28 medical staff heroically sacrificed their lives while saving patients.
    Period 1965 - 1975
  • Renovated facilities after the devastation of war, increased staff numbers, and expanded professional activities. The hospital was honored to welcome President Ho Chi Minh twice: December 1954 and March 1960.
    Period 1954 - 1964
  • During the resistance war against the French, the hospital was a fortress for our army and people in the struggle to defend the capital, with professional activities taking place under extremely difficult conditions.

  • The hospital was named Bach Mai Hospital.

  • The hospital was named René Robin, built on a larger scale, and became the main practice facility of the Indochina Medical University.

  • Bach Mai Hospital was established, initially as the small Cong Vong Hospital specializing in receiving and treating infectious disease patients.
