1. Functions and Missions
Functions:
- As a clinical department of Bach Mai Hospital – a complete special-grade general hospital, the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes is responsible for examining and treating patients with endocrine and metabolic diseases; training and developing health human resources; providing healthcare line management, scientific research, and international cooperation.
Missions:
- Examine and treat endocrine pathologies such as diabetes, thyroid diseases, adrenal gland diseases, pituitary gland diseases, obesity, and dyslipidemia.
- Manage patients with diabetes and chronic endocrine diseases in outpatient settings.
- Screen, diagnose, and treat endocrine disorders during pregnancy.
- Perform advanced techniques in diagnosing thyroid, pituitary, and adrenal diseases, including new techniques such as Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) and insulin pump therapy for diabetic patients.
- Develop treatment protocols and technical procedures; participate in clinical trials for new drugs and techniques in the field of Endocrinology.
- Serve as an endocrine training facility for undergraduate and postgraduate students from various Medical Universities and Bach Mai Medical College.
- Conduct scientific research and international cooperation with many countries and universities worldwide, such as the USA, France, Australia, Singapore, and Japan.
- Provide healthcare line management and specialized endocrine support for hospitals in the Northern region.
- Conduct health communication and education for the community.
2. Outstanding Achievements
Professional Achievements:
- Annually treats approximately 5,000 inpatients, examines 80,000 outpatients, and performs thyroid ultrasounds for 45,000 patients.
- Successfully treats many difficult and severe cases referred from other hospitals.
- Coordinates the successful implementation of many difficult and complex procedures such as inferior petrosal sinus sampling (IPSS) for ACTH measurement to diagnose Cushing's syndrome; advanced techniques like Insulin Pump for Type 1 diabetes treatment, genetic testing, etc.
- Routinely coordinates the treatment of thyroid microcarcinoma using Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), parathyroid surgery, pituitary tumor surgery, etc.
- A leading unit in foot care and ulcer treatment for diabetic patients.
- Frequently organizes scientific seminars and consultations with foreign experts.
- Publishes numerous scientific research works in international and national journals.
- Conducts many multi-center clinical trials on new drugs and treatment methods.
Awards from the Party, State, Government, and Ministry of Health:
- Awarded the Third-class Labor Medal (2011) and Second-class Labor Medal (2019).
Awarded 02 Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister.
- Numerous Certificates of Merit from the Minister of Health and the National Union of Health Workers for the collective and individual staff members.
- Recognized as a Center of Excellence for diabetes treatment.
