    Department Information

    1. History and Development

    The Digestive Surgery Center was established on December 29, 2023, and officially commenced operations on January 10, 2024. The Center was formed by merging the Department of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary & Digestive Surgery and the Department of General Surgery.

    2. Organizational

    Structure In its initial phase, the Center consists of two specialized departments:

    • Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery
    • Department of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery

    Human Resources: The Center has a total of 79 staff members, including:

    • Doctors (22): 01 Associate Professor, 04 PhDs, 02 Level II Specialists, 14 Masters, and 01 Residency Doctor.
    • Nurses (48): 03 Bachelors, 15 College-level, and 30 others.
    • Support Staff: 08 Orderlies and 01 Medical Secretary.
    • Facilities: 02 examination rooms and 154 inpatient beds.

    3. Functions and Missions

    The Center focuses on the examination and surgical treatment of digestive system diseases (from the esophagus to the anus and the hepato-pancreato-biliary system), as well as related conditions such as endocrine disorders, retroperitoneal/intraperitoneal pathologies, and abdominal wall/anorectal-pelvic floor issues. Key missions include:

    • Specialized medical examination and treatment.
    • Training and scientific research.
    • Direction of lower-level health lines (healthcare network support).
    • International cooperation and quality management.
    • Disease prevention and control.

    4. Notable Technical Activities

    • High-volume Care: Average of over 8,000 examinations and 5,000 safe surgeries per year.
    • Advanced Techniques: Laparoscopic surgery for esophageal, gastric, and colorectal cancers; pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple procedure); vascular reconstruction; and complex liver resections.
    • Organ Transplantation: Actively contributing to the hospital's multi-organ transplant project, including organ recovery from brain-dead donors for heart, liver, and kidney transplants.
    • Future Orientation: Applying Robotic Surgery and standardizing the ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) program to shorten hospital stays and improve patient satisfaction.
    • International Training: Sending doctors for advanced training in major digestive centers in France, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.
