    1. History

    • Originating from the Department of Cardiology - Bach Mai Hospital, the Vietnam National Heart Institute was officially established by the Ministry of Health under Decision No. 704/BYT/QD on November 11, 1989.

    2. Functions and Missions

    • Medical Examination & Treatment: Applying high-tech cardiovascular interventions, including internal medicine, interventional cardiology, and surgery for both adults and children.
    • Training & Clinical Direction: Serving as the leading national institute for cardiovascular specialty training and supporting provincial hospitals.
    • Scientific Research: Focusing on national and ministerial-level research projects.
    • Prevention: Implementing national programs for Hypertension prevention and Rheumatic Heart Disease control.

    3. Professional Activities & Advanced Techniques
    VNHI maintains its position as the leading institution with modern techniques:

    • Advanced Diagnostics: 4D Ultrasound-guided intervention, TAVI, and percutaneous mitral valve repair.
    • Interventional Cardiology: Routine high-tech procedures such as Rotablation, IVUS, FFR, and TAVI-in-TAVI (first successful case in Vietnam in 2023).
    • Arrhythmia Treatment: 3D mapping, radiofrequency ablation, leadless pacemakers, and His bundle pacing.
    • Cardiovascular Surgery: Minimally invasive surgery, endoscopic heart surgery, and MAZE procedure for atrial fibrillation.
