Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co is currently the Director of Bach Mai Hospital, Rector of Bach Mai Medical College, Vice President of the Vietnam Society of Critical Care Medicine and Medical Toxicology, and Vice Rector concurrently Head of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
In his position as Director of Bach Mai Hospital, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Xuan Co has introduced many breakthrough strategies, helping the Hospital constantly improve the quality of medical services to meet the increasing healthcare needs of the people. Under his leadership, Bach Mai Hospital has implemented a series of important projects, from investing in modern medical equipment and applying information technology in management to training and improving the professional qualifications of the medical staff. In particular, he always focuses on building a humanistic working environment where every medical staff member feels valued and has opportunities for development.
Bach Mai Hospital is the first special-class complete general hospital in Vietnam, a top-tier specialized medical center entrusted with many responsibilities of the health sector. With a scale of 3,600 beds and 55 subordinate units (including 41 clinical departments, 12 functional units, and 2 training units), thanks to its sustainable development strategy, Bach Mai Hospital has built a powerful workforce of nearly 4,500 officials, civil servants, and employees. Bach Mai has become a gathering place for many leading experts across various specialties.
In more than 30 years of medical practice, he has implemented many modern techniques such as continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), plasma exchange, and plasmapheresis to treat serious diseases. Notably, he and his colleagues developed the ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) technique, making the Hospital a pioneer in treating critically ill patients using this method in Vietnam.
In teaching and research activities, he has participated in compiling and publishing many important books. Notably, he was the Editor-in-Chief of the book "Handbook of Diagnosis and Treatment of Internal Diseases," which won Prize A at the 7th National Book Awards in 2024. Additionally, he has 35 articles published in international journals and has participated in many reports at international scientific conferences, contributing to the advancement of the field of intensive care and emergency medicine.
