Bach Mai Hospital Strengthens Cooperation with Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Training and Nursing Development

On September 26, 2025, Bach Mai Hospital welcomed a delegation of experts from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, one of Germany’s leading medical institutions, for a working visit to explore opportunities for cooperation in nursing development and advanced medical training.

The delegation was led by Mr. Nagi Salaz, Director of the Integrated Nursing Division and former Acting Director of Nursing at Charité. The delegation also included representatives from Vigerlaw Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH (Germany), Vigerlaw Law Vietnam, Viger Edu Vietnam–Germany Education Company, and experts from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

Expanding Opportunities for International Collaboration
The meeting was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital. Participants from the hospital also included:

Dr. Bui Minh Thu, Acting Head of the Nursing Department and Vice Rector of Bach Mai Medical College
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Chief of Office
Dr. Vu Van Nhan, Deputy Director of the Bach Mai Institute of Medical Research and Training
Head nurses from several hospital departments
At the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong Giang, Deputy Head of the Nursing Department, presented an overview of the hospital’s nursing system, highlighting its mission, organizational structure, quality management efforts, training programs, and international cooperation initiatives.

Learning from One of the World’s Leading Hospitals
Representing Charité, Mr. Nagi Salaz introduced the history and achievements of the institution. With a history of more than 300 years, Charité operates multiple campuses across Berlin and has consistently been ranked the number one hospital in Germany and among the top medical institutions worldwide.

He also emphasized Charité’s strong research tradition, noting that many of its scientists have been awarded Nobel Prizes in Medicine.

During the discussion session, the Charité delegation listened with interest to Bach Mai Hospital’s experiences and achievements, particularly in the application of ECMO technology at the Intensive Care Center. They also learned about the challenges faced by the hospital, including high patient volumes and heavy workloads for nursing staff.

Mr. Salaz acknowledged Bach Mai Hospital’s proposal to collaborate in training programs for geriatric nursing, expressing strong interest in expanding future cooperation in this field.

Toward Sustainable and Meaningful Partnership
Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Xuan Co warmly welcomed the Charité delegation and expressed his honor in hosting representatives from one of Germany’s most prestigious hospitals.

He introduced Bach Mai Hospital as a Special-Class general hospital under the Ministry of Health, serving not only as a national referral center but also as a major clinical training facility for many medical universities in Hanoi.

Dr. Co emphasized the hospital’s desire to promote deeper collaboration, particularly in training nurses specializing in elderly care, in response to the growing challenge of population aging in Vietnam. He also expressed hope for building a long-term and effective partnership between the two institutions.

 A Promising Start for Future Cooperation
During the meeting, Dr. Dao Xuan Co formally invited the leadership of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin to visit Vietnam and Bach Mai Hospital in the near future. He expressed interest in learning from Charité’s advanced hospital management models and healthcare practices, with the goal of applying relevant experiences in Vietnam.

In response, Mr. Nagi Salaz described the meeting as an important first step toward deeper collaboration. He expressed Charité’s readiness to move toward signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and expanding cooperation in areas such as:

Advanced professional training programs
Exchange of physicians and nursing professionals
Development of specialized nursing education
Mr. Salaz also extended an invitation for Dr. Dao Xuan Co to visit Charité in Berlin in the near future.

 Exploring Practical Cooperation
At the conclusion of the visit, the German delegation toured several key areas of Bach Mai Hospital, including the Emergency Center and the International Medical Examination Department, to observe nursing practices and patient care systems.

The delegation also visited Bach Mai Medical College to learn more about the hospital’s training programs for medical students and nursing professionals.

The visit marked an important milestone in strengthening the relationship between the two institutions and opened new prospects for practical cooperation in healthcare training and patient care development.
