Welcoming the delegation on behalf of Bach Mai Hospital were Associate Professor Vu Van Giap, Deputy Director of the Hospital; Associate Professor Do Ngoc Son, Director of the Intensive Care Center; Associate Professor Vu Dang Luu, Director of the Radiology Center; Associate Professor Nguyen Van Hung, Director of the Musculoskeletal Center; Nguyen Thi Huong, MSc, Chief of the Hospital Office; along with leaders and staff from the Stroke Center, the Center for Healthcare Quality Management, the Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences, and the Institute of Medical Training and Research.

Strengthening Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence and Biomedical Research
Founded in 1993, the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) is one of South Korea’s leading institutions in science and technology education and research, guided by its vision of becoming a “pioneer leading the future.”
GIST is home to an internationally recognized research community, with many faculty members ranked among the top 2% of the world’s most influential scientists. The institute is also a pioneer in artificial intelligence research and education, having established both the AI Graduate School and the School of AI Policy and Strategy.
In addition, GIST maintains a global network of partnerships with prestigious institutions such as MIT, Imperial College London, and Caltech. In the biomedical field, the institute is particularly known for its AI-based drug discovery research center and several institutes specializing in fundamental sciences.
Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Yong-Chul Kim expressed his admiration for the scale, reputation, and nearly 115-year tradition of Bach Mai Hospital. He affirmed that GIST is ready to support the hospital in developing high-quality human resources through Master’s and PhD programs (MD/PhD), with the goal of training physicians who are not only clinically skilled but also capable of conducting advanced scientific research.

Combining Clinical Data with Technological Innovation
Beyond training, both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration in sharing technology platforms and implementing joint research projects.
Under this cooperation, GIST’s strengths in artificial intelligence will be applied to clinical and paraclinical fields at Bach Mai Hospital while jointly developing advanced biomedical research aimed at addressing real-world healthcare challenges in Viet Nam.
The combination of Bach Mai Hospital’s extensive clinical data resources and GIST’s advanced research and technological capabilities is expected to generate high-impact scientific outcomes, facilitate international publications, and attract major research funding.

A Strategic Partnership for the Future of Medical Innovation
On behalf of the hospital’s Board of Directors, Associate Professor Vu Van Giap, Deputy Director of Bach Mai Hospital, expressed his pleasure in welcoming the GIST delegation and his confidence in the institute’s strategic vision and research capacity.
He emphasized that cooperation with GIST aligns closely with the hospital’s development strategy in the coming years, which identifies science and technology as a key driver for improving healthcare quality and advancing medical research.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding, the two institutions will enhance collaboration in education and scientific research to strengthen academic quality at both organizations. Key areas of cooperation include:
Exchange of experts, lecturers, and students
Implementation of joint research programs
Co-organization of scientific conferences and workshops
Exploration of long-term collaborative research projects
Toward a New Phase of International Medical Collaboration
Immediately after the signing ceremony, the GIST delegation visited several key departments at Bach Mai Hospital to observe clinical operations and research activities. Following professional discussions and on-site assessments, both sides agreed on priority areas of cooperation, particularly the application of artificial intelligence in paraclinical medicine and the development of joint research programs.
GIST leaders highly appreciated the professional expertise of Bach Mai Hospital’s medical staff and reaffirmed their commitment to long-term collaboration in future projects.
The meeting and signing ceremony between Bach Mai Hospital and GIST concluded successfully, marking the beginning of a promising new phase of cooperation aimed at promoting the application of advanced science and technology in medicine and enhancing healthcare services for the Vietnamese people.
