Representing Bach Mai Hospital were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Hospital Director; Specialist Level II Dr. Nguyen Minh Trang, Acting Head of the Department of Traditional Medicine; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Hong Khoi, Director of the Bach Mai Neuroscience Institute; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luong Tuan Khanh, Director of the Rehabilitation Center; MSc. Nguyen Thi Huong, Chief of Office; along with representatives from the Stroke Center, Musculoskeletal Center, Department of Neurosurgery, Administration Division, and the Hospital Office.

At the meeting, Prof. Chen Xuanmei highly appreciated the potential for cooperation between the two sides, particularly in the field of traditional medicine. He emphasized the effectiveness of therapies such as acupuncture and acupressure in treatment and rehabilitation, and proposed key areas of collaboration, including human resource training, technology transfer, and the development of standardized medicinal materials.

Earlier, within the framework of the program, the two sides held an academic exchange workshop with the participation of a large number of healthcare professionals. Chinese experts shared in-depth experience in integrating traditional medicine into neurosurgery, Fujian-style acupuncture techniques, and Tuina therapy for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and chronic pain. Notably, live demonstrations on patients enabled Bach Mai physicians to gain direct, practical insights into these treatment methods, opening up new opportunities for future training and technology transfer.

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Xuan Co expressed his sincere appreciation to the Chinese experts for sharing valuable knowledge and experience. He also highlighted the orientation for developing traditional medicine in a modern, integrative, and evidence-based direction. Bach Mai Hospital aims to strengthen cooperation with international partners, particularly China-a country with a millennia-old tradition of traditional medicine-in order to establish a modern Institute of Traditional Medicine within the hospital, closely integrating traditional and modern medicine, while enhancing both training quality and treatment outcomes.

Discussions from specialists in Neurology, Musculoskeletal Medicine, Rehabilitation, Stroke, and Neurosurgery highlighted a strong demand for integrating traditional medicine into clinical practice, especially in the treatment of neurological disorders, stroke, post-operative care, and chronic diseases. The combination of methods such as acupuncture and acupressure with modern treatments is expected to improve rehabilitation outcomes, reduce complications, and enhance patients’ quality of life.

Specialist Level II Dr. Nguyen Minh Trang, Acting Head of the Department of Traditional Medicine, also emphasized the development potential of the specialty within a top-tier general hospital, and proposed strengthening specialized training and access to standardized medicinal resources.

The meeting also recorded a number of specific proposals from the Chinese partner regarding technology transfer, training, and support for the development of medicinal materials. Both sides agreed on key areas of cooperation, including building an integrated traditional medicine institute model, developing human resources, and promoting scientific research.

As part of the program, Bach Mai Hospital and ENSTORIX Energy Joint Stock Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a framework for cooperation in research, consultancy, and the implementation of digital systems within the hospital. Accordingly, Bach Mai Hospital will provide requirements, data, and development orientations, while the partner will deliver comprehensive solutions from design and construction to system operation. Both sides agreed to establish a close coordination mechanism, maintain regular exchanges, and implement specific projects in the near future.

The meeting and signing ceremony not only open new directions for the development of traditional medicine but also reaffirm Bach Mai Hospital’s commitment to international integration and innovation in healthcare models. With a clear strategic orientation and the support of reputable partners, the hospital is gradually building a modern, integrated, and sustainable healthcare system, aiming to improve the quality of treatment and patient care.
