International Cooperation

On September 16, Bach Mai Hospital and Mescells - Regenerative Medicine and Cell Therapy Specialized Health System signed a cooperation agreement to research and apply mesenchymal stem cells in clinical treatment. Among them, cirrhosis is one of the pathologies of special interest to both parties, with the aim of finding new approaches based on the principles of scientific evidence, safety, and compliance with the law.

According to the agreement, the two sides will coordinate in scientific research and product development; human resource training; research and development of specialized techniques, and resource sharing to serve research and treatment. Clinical trial activities will only be deployed when fully meeting scientific, legal, and related regulatory requirements.

Bringing research closer to patients

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hiền - Chairwoman of Mescells - Regenerative Medicine and Cell Therapy Specialized Health System, stated that the cooperation between the two units is a connection between the clinical capacity of a top-tier hospital and the technology and research platform in the cellular field.

Accordingly, the cooperation aims to step by step transfer techniques, build capacity, and bring appropriate research results into practice when fully meeting professional, quality, and legal requirements. The unit commits to providing stem cells that meet the necessary standards to serve research and application.

"We believe that the ultimate value of research lies not only in scientific results, but in the ability to bring those results to patients," Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hiền shared.

New technology must be safe, effective, and accessible

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tuan Tung, Vice Director of Bach Mai Hospital, emphasized that alongside medical examination and treatment, training, scientific research, and professional direction are important pillars of the Hospital. Researching and applying new technologies, including cell technology, is a direction aimed at finding additional solutions to improve treatment quality.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tuan Tung, bringing new technology into practice requires coordination among regulatory agencies, research-production units, and clinical hospitals. Specifically, products must meet standards; efficacy and safety must be fully evaluated, and the implementation process must comply with legal regulations.

"The hospital hopes that cooperation will not stop at research, but will gradually move towards clinical application when there is sufficient evidence, processes, and legal conditions. Technology must truly have therapeutic value, while also having a reasonable cost so that Vietnamese people can access it," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tuan Tung emphasized.

Bringing the agreement into practice soon

At the program, Dr. Nguyen Ngo Quang - Director of the Administration of Science, Technology and Training under the Ministry of Health, highly appreciated the connection between research, production, and the application of cell technology.

According to him, this is a new, complex field requiring high expertise and strict management. All research and application activities must comply with legal regulations, research ethics, quality standards, and safety requirements; with complete processes for patient selection, outcome monitoring, and risk management.

The representative of the Ministry of Health suggested that the two units soon establish a coordinating focal point, develop a plan with specific tasks, responsibilities, progress, and products, so that the agreement can be substantively implemented after signing.

"The ultimate goal is to bring high technology, safety, and effectiveness to Vietnamese patients as soon as possible, at a reasonable cost and on an appropriate scale," Dr. Nguyen Ngo Quang emphasized.

absorbing the directions, Bach Mai Hospital stated that it will soon coordinate with Mescells|MSC to build a specific implementation plan.
