The project is implemented with the support of the Asian Productivity Organization (APO), Vietnam Certification Centre (QUACERT), and Commission for the Standards, Metrology and Quality of Viet Nam (STAMEQ). Bach Mai Hospital is one of four selected units to participate in the pilot program and is the sole representative in the healthcare sector, alongside three units in the manufacturing sector.

Accessing, building, and implementing the ESG governance model in accordance with global reporting standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has made Bach Mai Hospital one of the pioneering public healthcare units in Vietnam and the region in this field.

This is an important milestone in the process of gradually integrating sustainable development standards and the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the governance and operation of public hospitals; thereby affirming the pioneering role of Bach Mai Hospital in promoting a green, efficient, and sustainable healthcare model in Vietnam.

Within the framework of the Project, on August 20, 2026, Bach Mai Hospital organized a working session with a team of experts to appraise the draft 2025 Sustainable Development Report, evaluate implementation results, identify data gaps, and agree on the implementation roadmap for the coming period.

The working session was attended by Mr. Manoj Panicker - Senior Sustainable Development Consulting Expert; Mr. Jittin Kapoor - APO Program Officer; Mr. Tran Anh Tuan - Expert from Vietnam Certification Centre (QUACERT). On the side of Bach Mai Hospital, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Van Giap - Deputy Director of the Hospital; Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - Chief of Office along with officials of Bach Mai Hospital participating in the project.

The implementation of ESG is not only aimed at completing a thematic report but, more importantly, gradually introducing sustainable development principles into the regular governance and operation of the Hospital. This is also an opportunity for the Hospital to comprehensively review the use of energy, water, materials, and waste management; while continuing to improve service quality, ensure patient safety, care for the staff, and enhance transparency and accountability in governance.

At the working session, experts exchanged and provided feedback on the scope, methodology, data, and material contents of the draft 2025 Sustainable Development Report. The discussion contents focused on three priority groups: Patient health and safety; Medical staff safety and Energy use efficiency. In addition, the parties also reviewed the ESG indicator system, data control methods, responsibilities of each unit, and the roadmap for improving indicators in subsequent cycles.

According to the plan, Bach Mai Hospital will continue to coordinate with APO and QUACERT to finalize the data, KPI indicator set, implementation roadmap, and the draft 2025 Sustainable Development Report. The report is expected to be completed and announced at the Project Summary Workshop at the end of October 2026. Simultaneously, the Hospital will gradually clearly define data owners for each group of indicators, standardize data collection and control processes, aiming to build a regular, unified, and verifiable ESG governance mechanism.

Being selected to participate in the pilot Project marks an important milestone in the governance innovation process of Bach Mai Hospital. Through cooperation with international agencies, organizations, and experts, the Hospital aims to build a greener, safer, more transparent healthcare facility that uses resources more efficiently; thereby improving the quality of people's healthcare, spreading ESG practices within the healthcare system, and continuing to affirm the position of Bach Mai Hospital in the process of international integration.
