On December 7, 2025, Bach Mai Hospital had the honor of welcoming a delegation from the United States for a working visit, opening new opportunities for collaboration in research, advanced medical technology applications, and programs aimed at improving the quality of patient care.

The U.S. delegation was led by Jay H. Golding, Chairman of the Board of N8 Medical, Inc. and Chairman of Golding Brothers Partners. Other members of the delegation included Henry William Haimsohn, President of H.William, Inc., along with advisors Nguyen Dinh Hung and Nguyen Nam Tran.

Representing Bach Mai Hospital at the meeting were Associate Professor Dao Xuan Co, Director of the Hospital; Associate Professor Vu Van Giap, Deputy Director; and Associate Professor Nguyen Tuan Tung, Deputy Director, along with leaders and head nurses from various institutes, centers, departments, and units of the hospital. The presence of leading clinical and paraclinical experts reflected the hospital’s strong interest in strengthening cooperation with the U.S. delegation.

Discussion on Advanced Antimicrobial Coating Technology
During the meeting, Jay H. Golding introduced the antimicrobial coating technology currently being developed by N8 Medical, in which the key active compound is serogenin.

The coating is designed to prevent the formation of biofilms on the surfaces of medical devices inserted into the body, particularly endotracheal tubes, which are among the devices most commonly associated with severe infections in critically ill patients receiving intensive care.

According to preliminary data from clinical studies conducted in Canada, the application of this coating technology has shown a promising trend in reducing infection rates as well as mortality among patients requiring mechanical ventilation. Based on these encouraging early results, the Canadian government has supported larger-scale trials to further evaluate the technology’s effectiveness.

Beyond endotracheal tubes, representatives from N8 Medical also highlighted the potential application of the coating on various other medical devices, including spinal screws, pacemaker pouches, dialysis catheters, and materials used in orthopedic and cardiovascular surgery.

The delegation expressed its interest in seeking partners in Viet Nam to collaborate on research and technology transfer, with the ultimate goal of improving patient safety.

Bach Mai Hospital Recognizes the Potential for Practical Collaboration
Speaking at the meeting, Associate Professor Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, expressed appreciation for the research efforts and the promising early results presented by the delegation.

From the perspective of an intensive care specialist, he emphasized that hospital-acquired infections—particularly among critically ill patients—remain a major challenge not only in Viet Nam but worldwide. Therefore, scientific solutions aimed at reducing infections related to mechanical ventilation and invasive medical devices are of great interest to Bach Mai Hospital.

The hospital director also shared his personal experiences studying and conducting research in medical institutions in the United States, reaffirming the hospital’s strong commitment to professional collaboration, training, technology transfer, and scientific research between the two countries.

He further acknowledged the valuable support that the United States has provided to Viet Nam’s healthcare sector over the years, particularly through programs of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in infection control, disease prevention, laboratory testing, and strengthening public health capacity.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, timely assistance from the United States—including tens of millions of vaccine doses—played a significant role in helping Viet Nam control the outbreak. In addition, numerous U.S. healthcare organizations and corporations have established close partnerships with Bach Mai Hospital, contributing to professional development and the expansion of research and training programs.

Future Directions for Cooperation
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue detailed discussions on potential cooperation areas, focusing on research and clinical trials of advanced medical technologies and devices.

The two parties also expressed interest in expanding collaboration in medical training, scientific research, and the development of high-quality healthcare models and techniques.

The U.S. delegation highly appreciated Bach Mai Hospital’s professional expertise, modern infrastructure, and extensive international cooperation network, and expressed its desire to strengthen effective and sustainable collaboration aimed at delivering practical benefits for patients.

The working visit not only opened new prospects for cooperation in medical technology but also contributed to strengthening the relationship between organizations, businesses, and experts from both countries—aligning with the ongoing integration and development of Viet Nam’s healthcare sector in a new era.
