Ngày đăng: 03/04/2026Tác giả: Dieu Hien - The Anh“Behind every wound lies not only sutures, but a rigorous clinical process: accurate assessment of tissue damage, strict infection control, and seamless multidisciplinary coordination to ensure optimal patient recovery.”
This was the key message highlighted throughout the international scientific workshop titled “Application of Advanced Technologies in Wound Management”, held on April 2, 2026, at Bach Mai Hospital.
When wound care is no longer a “minor issue”
In clinical practice, chronic wounds and infections remain significant challenges. According to reports presented at the workshop, the rate of surgical site infections can exceed 10%, substantially increasing treatment costs and hospital stays.
Notably, diabetic foot complications account for up to 66% of non-traumatic amputations-an alarming figure for healthcare professionals.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Tran Thai Son, MD, Specialist Level II, Deputy Director of the Center for Healthcare Quality Management, emphasized that effective management of complex wounds requires accurate assessment, strict infection control, and close multidisciplinary collaboration. Above all, it must be a continuous, comprehensive, and patient-safe care process.
The workshop attracted more than 600 participants, including 200 healthcare professionals attending in person and over 420 joining online from across the country. This strong participation reflects the growing interest in wound management and affirms Bach Mai Hospital’s leading role in professional training and knowledge transfer.
Personalized treatment: Bringing global knowledge to the bedside
The workshop atmosphere was enriched by the participation of experts from Poland, who shared not only theoretical insights but also practical experiences from complex clinical cases in Europe.

Among them were Prof. Tomasz Banasiewicz, Head of the Department of Surgery at Karol Marcinkowski University of Medical Sciences, and Dr. Robert Kasparek, a specialist in regenerative medicine.
From Bach Mai Hospital, Dr. Bui Minh Thu, Head of the Nursing Department, along with more than 200 nurses, technicians, and midwives, attended the event. These frontline professionals play a critical role in daily patient care and wound management.
The collaboration between international experts and frontline healthcare providers created a valuable “point of convergence,” helping translate advanced medical knowledge into tangible clinical outcomes.
Breakthrough technologies: Opening new treatment pathways
A key highlight of the workshop was the introduction of advanced technologies in wound management.

Dr. Robert Kasparek presented platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) therapies—autologous biological materials derived from the patient’s own blood. These therapies promote tissue regeneration, reduce inflammation and pain, and minimize the risk of allergic reactions.
They offer promising new approaches for treating pressure ulcers, venous ulcers, and musculoskeletal injuries.
Vietnamese experts also contributed valuable practical insights:
Dr. Nguyen The Hiep discussed advanced techniques in managing recurrent anal fistulas
Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc emphasized early prevention and treatment strategies for diabetic foot, particularly off-loading techniques—considered the “gold standard” for limb preservation
Dr. Phan Tuan Nghia presented reconstructive surgery combined with negative pressure wound therapy and irrigation for soft tissue defects
MSc. Vu Thi Nha highlighted the role of nursing in comprehensive care of infected wounds, including the application of the NEWS scoring system and the TIME framework

The value lies in transforming practice
At a tertiary hospital like Bach Mai, standardizing clinical practices according to international standards is not only a professional requirement but also a critical priority.
Beyond knowledge updates, the workshop provided an opportunity for healthcare professionals to reflect on common limitations in practice—such as focusing too heavily on local wound treatment while overlooking patients’ overall condition and nutritional status.
According to Dr. Tran Thai Son, the greatest value of the workshop lies in empowering healthcare workers with new perspectives and practical tools. When knowledge is effectively translated into action, the ultimate beneficiaries are the patients.
The workshop concluded in a spirit of collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and connectivity, reaffirming Bach Mai Hospital’s commitment to adopting advanced medical technologies and enhancing the quality of healthcare services for the community.
